How To Select The Best Swim Lessons For Your Child

Updated: Feb 25, 2022

As as a parent, it's hard to know what swim lessons to pick for your child. There are usually a lot of choices at every swim school and it's hard to know where to start. Every family comes to swim lessons looking for the same results but usually every swimmer comes to lessons with different levels of exposure. Age, ability, and comfort around water can all be factors in your selection. Here at Streamline Teams, we want to walk you though how we place your child based on our class offerings. We offer four levels of swim lesson classes: Parent & Me, Beginner, Intermediate, & Advanced.

Parent & Me:

If your child is under the age of two, you would select Parent & Me classes for swim lessons. These classes are offered in 8 - 30 minute sessions, run for four weeks, and occur twice per week. You would select a Monday-Wednesday, Tuesday-Thursday, or Saturday-Sunday class based on your schedule. Due to Covid-19 any group classes will have to be created by you at your own risk but we do offer these classes with up to four parents and for children. Parent & Me classes have a lot to offer but we recommend them with at least one other family, it's a great social experience for parents to meet others in the same phase of life. Check out our latest blog "Water Reflexes & Babies - What You Didn't Know" to learn more about what we teach in these classes.

Beginner:

This is the next step up from Parent & Me Classes. If your child has successfully completed Parent & Me and is over the age of two, they can begin taking independent lessons. This is also the introductory class for those who have never taken swim lessons before or if your child has only been around water with a flotation device such as a puddle jumper or water wings. If you child has fears around water, we highly recommend a private lesson environment so that the classes can be paced based on their individual needs. If your child has had a lot of water exposure and enjoys their time in aquatic environments, we also offer these classes in Semi-Private Lessons. These classes are offered in 8 - 30 minute sessions, run for four weeks, and occur twice per week. You would select a Monday-Wednesday, Tuesday-Thursday, or Saturday-Sunday class based on your schedule. Due to Covid-19, these classes must be self grouped at your own risk as well for your child's safety.

Intermediate:

Once your swimmer has conquered their fears and has mastered a few key foundational skills, they can move up into intermediate lessons. At this level, we do offer private lessons but recommend the Semi-Private or Group Lessons of up to four swimmer settings for your child. By being in a group environment, your child will watch other children practice and accomplish more advanced skills which will give them confidence and encouragement to achieve the same skills as well.

Advanced:

This is a very diverse group placement and the focus of the class can change based on the participants needs. Some people come to these classes seeking stroke technique and development to prepare for competitive swim team. Others want their children to gain endurance so they are able to retain the skills gained at prior lessons over a longer duration swim. Some parents select this class for their children that have taken swim lessons in the past that need a refresher class over the summer. We even see adults in these classes wanting to improve their training for triathlons and other events. Whatever your swimmers needs are, we can teach it at this level. Private, Semi-Private, and Group Lessons of up to four swimmers are offered at this level.
